Is maritime security gender-blind?

Contemporary maritime security challenges such as piracy, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing fisheries crimes, significantly affect communities individuals. Utilising a gender lens more holistic approach that highlights the land-sea nexus in contemporary insecurities, this article transcends existing stereotypes prevailing assumptions surrounding masculine character of domain, to examine how both women men are affected context. The conducts analysis mapping women’s men’s roles (maritime) providers, well victims crime perpetrators through two developed case studies, namely piracy Somalia IUU crimes Indonesia. Key findings indicate clear relationship established links exist between studies. Both have role play context challenges, but geographical spaces zone delimitations largely define ways which they currently affected.
